Experiencing Sustainable Research

Workshop on green Research in the CRC 1026 "Sustainable Manufacturing" on the "Green Day - pupils check green jobs"

Can one use CO2 for cleaning? And what has a 3D printer to do with the protection of the environment? Ten pupils experienced closely with concrete projects what sustainable research means during the "Green Day".

Beyond the theoretical introduction in the complex issue of sustainable manufacturing and value creation especially specific projects of the collaborative research center 1026 "Sustainable Manufacturing – Shaping global Value Creation" were in the focus. In the testing field, the pupils of the eleventh class experienced projects like the wind channel, in which potentials of wind energy are investigated, socially and ecologically sustainable cleaning with dry ice or 3D printing as an alternative to traditional production processes.

Students and researchers of the TU Berlin discussed their own research projects and which paths lead to a career as a researcher with the pupils.

At the end of the day all attendants agreed: the Green Day in the collaborative research center 1026 "Sustainable Manufacturing" provided an excellent insight in research and useful incentives for the choice of academic studies.

The "Green Day – pupils check green jobs" is a nationwide event organized by the Zeitbild foundation. In the context of this event, companies and institutions present environment-friendly professions and formations. The collaborative research center 1026 "Sustainable Manufacturing – Shaping global Value Creation" participated for the first time in 2013. More information on www.greenday2013.de (in German).
